Move Move Collaborative is a dance/movement intensive held annually in Maryland, the unceded land of the Piscataway-Conoy, during the month of June. Participants come together to become a temporary ensemble that represents a diverse range of movement artists, dancers, and somatic practitioners. We work together to think with performance in the times we are living through.

This project was founded by Peter Redgrave as a space to explore non-hierarchical decision making structures in performance building. Consensus-based decision making is the tool of choice. It brings the macrocosm of our embodied histories into the microcosm of group dynamics. It demands that we make time to listen to all the voices in the space to create work we can all be excited to perform.

In 2021, we are taking a step back from live public performance. It does not seem responsible or safe to plan or promote a performance during a global pandemic. Instead, Move Move has partnered with Gray’s Manor Farm, a Black-owned permaculture wellness center and farm, to host a retreat for a small group of artists.

There is a paradox baked into this project - consensus facilitated by a single, white, male-bodied person - Peter. I am grateful to be in dialogue with a group of people around this work. I work to make space for everyone who wants to be involved to take as much responsibility as they are comfortable with. I would like to thank Cristal Sabbagh, Matt Williams, Orlando Johnson, slowdanger (anna thompson and taylor knight), Kate O’Brien, and Maggie Schneider for their years of dedicated discussion around this project. It would not be where it is today without their input.
